Seedance 2.0 vs MiniMax H3: Which One to Use

Three models sit behind the picker on Video Gen Now: Seedance 2.0, Seedance 2.5 and MiniMax H3. They are not ranked — they are shaped differently, and picking the wrong one for a job costs you either quality or credits.

This post compares the two most people choose between, 2.0 and H3, and then places 2.5 against both.

The short answer

  • Need sound, 4K, or a clip shorter than five seconds → Seedance 2.0.
  • Need 2K on a flat, predictable price, especially for longer or wider shots → MiniMax H3.
  • Need a single take longer than fifteen seconds, or more than nine reference images → Seedance 2.5.
  • Need the render back in about a second and a half, at 768p with audio → MiniMax H3 Max.

MiniMax H3 Max is the newer, faster sibling of MiniMax H3. It caps at 768p rather than 2K, but fal's model page clocks a five-second 768p render at roughly 1.5 seconds on the Turbo endpoint — fast enough that generation outruns playback. It runs in Live Mode on its own page, with one free clip per account, and sits outside the three-way comparison below.

If you only remember one thing: Seedance is billed by pixels, MiniMax is billed by the second. Everything below follows from that.

What about Seedance 2.5?

Seedance 2.5 is live and in the picker as of 10 August 2026. It is not a replacement for 2.0 — it is a different trade, and for most jobs 2.0 is still the better pick.

An earlier version of this post repeated ByteDance's pre-launch claim that 2.5 would output 4K. It does not. The shipped model tops out at 720p. Here is what it actually does:

  • Up to 30 seconds in a single take, versus 15 on Seedance 2.0. This is the real reason to reach for it.
  • Up to 30 reference images, versus 9 — and you can address them individually in the prompt as @Image1, @Image2. (ByteDance's "50 references" figure is the total across images, video and audio; the image slot alone is 30.)
  • 480p and 720p only. No 1080p, no 4K.
  • Native audio, on by default, no extra cost — same as 2.0.
  • It costs more. Both resolutions bill at the same token rate, about 53% above Seedance 2.0's. A five-second 16:9 clip is roughly 103 credits at 480p and 232 at 720p, against 68 and 152 on 2.0.

So the decision is narrow: take 2.5 when the shot has to run long or lean on a lot of references. Everywhere else — 4K finals, cheap 480p drafting, anything under fifteen seconds — Seedance 2.0 does the same job for about a third less.

One number worth internalising before you queue a long take: thirty seconds at 720p 16:9 is about 1,387 credits. Duration scales the cost linearly, so a single 30-second render costs roughly what six five-second ones do.

What each model gives you

Seedance 2.0 (ByteDance's flagship)

  • Resolutions: 480p, 720p, 1080p and 4K
  • Durations: 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 15 seconds
  • Aspect ratios: 21:9, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 9:16

MiniMax H3

  • Resolution: 2K on every mode
  • Durations: 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 15 seconds
  • Aspect ratios: the same six, plus an auto option in reference mode that follows your inputs
  • No audio track — the clip comes out silent
  • Modes: text to video, image to video, reference to video (up to 9 reference images)
  • Unusually stable subject motion — faces and products drift less across a long take

What a clip actually costs

Credits track the real GPU cost of a render, so the two models price along different axes. A five-second 16:9 clip:

  • Seedance 2.0 — about 68 credits at 480p, 152 at 720p, 341 at 1080p, 778 at 4K
  • MiniMax H3 — about 130 credits, at 2K, whatever the aspect ratio

Read that twice, because it is the least intuitive thing about the two models: MiniMax at 2K costs less than Seedance at 720p. If your shot does not need audio, MiniMax is often the cheaper way to a high-resolution take.

The comparison flips as the shot gets wider or longer:

  • Aspect ratio only moves Seedance. More pixels, more credits — a five-second 1080p clip is about 447 credits at 21:9 and about 192 at 1:1. MiniMax charges the same 130 credits for both, because it bills per second.
  • Duration scales linearly for both. A ten-second MiniMax clip is about 260 credits; ten seconds of Seedance at 1080p is about 682.
  • Reference images are free up to a point. MiniMax includes five reference images, then charges a small amount per extra one — nine images on a five-second clip lands around 162 credits.

Every one of these numbers is shown in the generator before you submit, so nothing here needs to be memorised. And if a render fails, the credits go straight back to your balance.

Where Seedance 2.0 wins

You need sound. This is the clean win. MiniMax renders silent, so if the deliverable is a spot that has to carry ambience, a whoosh, or a line of dialogue, Seedance does it in one pass from the same prompt. Adding audio afterwards means an edit session you were trying to avoid.

You need 4K. For a hero shot on a landing page or anything that will be cropped in post, 4K gives you room. It is the most expensive option on the platform at roughly 778 credits for five seconds — but the per-pixel rate is actually lower than 1080p, so it is better value than the raw number suggests.

You are drafting. 480p at about 68 credits is the cheapest render available. When you are testing whether a camera move reads at all, that is the resolution to iterate at — then re-render the winner once at 1080p. See the prompt guide for how we structure that loop.

Your clip is four seconds. Seedance goes down to four seconds; MiniMax starts at five. For a snappy social cut, that one second is real money and real pacing.

Where MiniMax H3 wins

Predictable budgets. Flat per-second pricing means a producer can quote a video before anyone has decided on the aspect ratio. With pixel-based billing, switching from 1:1 to 21:9 more than doubles the cost of the same shot.

Wide and vertical at high resolution. A 21:9 anamorphic take at 2K costs the same as a square one. If your campaign lives in cinematic ratios, this is where the difference shows up on the invoice.

Long takes. Fifteen seconds at 2K for roughly 390 credits is hard to beat if you do not need audio. The same duration on Seedance at 1080p runs past 1,000.

Subject consistency. In reference to video, MiniMax holds a face or a package steady across a long take better than we see elsewhere, and it accepts an auto aspect ratio that follows your uploads rather than forcing a crop.

One thing to watch in reference mode

Seedance handles reference-to-video on a faster, cheaper tier — around 121 credits for a five-second 720p clip — but that tier caps at 720p. If you need reference-driven video above 720p, MiniMax is the only option, and at 2K for about 130 credits it is barely more expensive than the capped Seedance render.

Picking by job

  • Product ad for paid social — Seedance, image to video, 1080p, with native audio. Render the 9:16 and 16:9 cuts from the same prompt; at equal resolution they cost the same.
  • Content-calendar filler, no budget for a shoot — MiniMax at 2K. Cheap per clip, no cropping surprises, silent by design because the platform will lay music over it anyway.
  • Storyboard or client pitch — Seedance at 480p. You are selling the motion, not the pixels, and you want to render ten variations in an afternoon.
  • Character or product that must stay recognisable — reference to video on MiniMax if you need the resolution, Seedance if you need the audio.

Questions people ask

Can I switch models mid-project?

Yes. The model picker sits on the same page as the prompt box, and your library keeps every render alongside the prompt that produced it, so you can re-run the same prompt on the other model and compare them side by side.

Does a higher price mean a better clip?

No. Price tracks pixels and seconds, not taste. A well-prompted 480p Seedance draft will beat a vague 4K render every time — the prompt is doing more work than the resolution.

Do both models support image to video?

Both do. One difference: MiniMax takes the output aspect ratio from your uploaded frame, so there is no ratio selector in that mode, while Seedance lets you choose one.

What happens when a new model is added?

It appears in the picker without changing how you work — same prompt box, same library, same credits. Pricing for a new model follows the same rule: credits track its real cost.

Can I render with Seedance 2.5 here yet?

Yes — it is in the picker, on its own model page, across all three modes. Note that it caps at 720p: if you need 1080p or 4K, stay on Seedance 2.0.
